Vocal Massage is a unique treatment to help restore and improve performance of the voice. Essential for singers and performers of any level, or anybody suffering from muscle tension dysphonia. If you are putting your voice through stress on a regular basis, vocal massage is vital to ensure you can continue performing at your best and to prevent any serious conditions from arising in the future. Vocal Massage is also often referred to as Laryngeal Therapy or Laryngeal Manipulation.
The treatment predominantly targets the neck and larynx, but attention may also be given to the jaw, diaphragm, chest, ribcage and thoracic spine. After your first vocal massage you can already expect to feel more ‘free and open’, with a deeper connection to the muscles involved in breathing, speaking & singing. We are also able to provide advice and tips on how best to look after your voice following on from the session.
As well as training under the UK’s first accredited vocal massage course we have also worked alongside a professional vocal coach and singer. By combining our hands-on manual therapy skills with their knowledge of voice related performance issues we have been able to develop the best possible treatment.
We also provide an optional add-on to vocal massage which is lymphatic drainage. Your lymphatic system is your body’s toxin removal system and key lymph nodes can easily become inflamed and blocked. Having trained under the excellent Dr Perry Nickleston we are qualified to assess and treat your lymph nodes to aid in drainage from the head and neck. One third of your entire lymph is located just in your neck, therefore incorporating this into your treatment can give incredible results. If you have suffered from chronic (long-term) vocal issues, have recently been ill or are currently congested then we highly recommend this option.
The lowest part of a vocal massage could be working from below the ribcage, so you may wear whatever trousers/leggings/short you are comfortable in. For women, a regular bra is recommended so that your therapist can ask you to undo the clasp when necessary to work with the back of the ribcage and thoracic spine. You will be draped with a towel at all times to cover areas that are not being worked on.
